Wracking my brains

I am wracking my brains right now trying to think of drought tolerant purplish foliaged ground covers. But i know full well if i want something purple then chances are it will like the shade, unless its a succulent which just wont fit. So I have a bit of a dilemma.

If anyone out there has any ideas at all please do not hesitate to contribute. I have considered the obvious Ajuga but somehow it doesnt grab me as it is quite a large area.

I am hoping to get this design finished before Easter but am not too sure.My theme for this garden is purple and lime with an Asian bent. Maybe I should just get some of those plants I have in the wheel barrow, or even prostrate there's an idea.

  1. I needed a ground cover since I have many embankments and hated the grass I had there. I went with the purple Rhoeo spathacea and now, you can see purple from a mile away. The plants are in partial to full sun and are drought tolerant.
I'm going to do a post on my blog about this. Do you have foot traffic in the area you are considering?

  2. I wish I had some suggestions for you. I am still learning about many plants. Nice wall.

  3. No foot traffic maybe the odd dog but thats about it.

  4. This is a great blog with nice photos. Tank you for chering with uss.

  5. I just did a post on my purple hill project. If you check it out you can see some pictures.

  6. Welcome to all new readers. Most of the photos on my blog are my own although I must confess to using others when the need arises. I do try to give credit where its due.

Thanks for that Prospero will have a look. I might no use Rheo in this case as they have a dog and I believe this type of plant can often cause skin problems in dogs. However will keep it in mind.

  7. The first and only thought that comes to mind when you ask for purple HEAT TOLERABLE plant is something from the SEDUM family. I don't think that is what you are looking for ....

I love the Easter Egg Collection photo.
    Happy Spring!

  8. Love your photos! I hope you found your purple ground cover.
